After months of research, the first residential wind zoning ordinance
goes before the city leaders of one lakeshore community for
consideration this month. Proponents hope the process will clear the
way for residents to supplement their home energy needs with wind power.
According to excerpts from the story:
FERRYSBURG — The Ferrysburg city
council will begin consideration of an ordinance that would allow
residents to construct wind energy conversion systems at its April 20
meeting. The ordinance sets guidelines for the size of wind energy
systems, the amount of energy they can produce, and setback
requirements.
Under the ordinance, systems would not be able
to produce more that 50 kilowatts. A system over 50 feet in height
would be subject to a Special Land Use permit while those under 50 feet
would be reviewed under normal site plan review requirements.
