"Our
membership is getting old, and the young people are moving away. It's getting
expensive to keep the church going," said Dr. Zigfrids Zadvinskis,
administrator of Our Lady of Aglona Catholic Church.
With
Zadvinskis' blessing, Grand Rapids Diocesan Bishop Walter Hurley accepted
developers' offer to buy the 110-year-old church at 507 Broadway Ave. NW, a real estate agent for the
diocese said.
Larry
Zeiser Jr. and Zack Zalar plan to build condominiums priced at $219,000 and up
after clearing the block -- bounded by Broadway and Alabama avenues and First and Second
streets -- of homes and the church.
