Battle Creek staffing agency opens executive office in Heartside

Battle Creek-based EmploymentGroup has opened an executive office in Grand Rapids with a plan to grow its Managed Services Division. The new location, 25 Ionia Ave. SW, Suite 503, will be the central hub for the firm’s managed services, which previously operated between the company’s Battle Creek headquarters and its Chicago office.

“We’re real excited about being a part of one of the most vibrant cities in the Midwest,” says President and CEO Mark Lancaster. “You don’t see many cranes in the skies when you drive around the Midwest these days, and with what’s going on around Grand Rapids, it’s pretty exciting.’

EG Managed Services places workers in large corporations to run non-strategic departments, such as mail rooms, delivery, shuttles and custodial.

The office space is one of several fifth-floor suites, many of which are headquarters for small businesses in the creative fields, including a writer, software developers and custom-storage designers. Each office has access to two conference rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom with a shower, and common areas with couches and coffee tables.

“We looked at several buildings,” Lancaster says. “I just think the feel of that building, with the exposed-brick walls and exposed beams is a great place to grow our business. And being on Ionia Street—it’s a gathering place for cool people, to use an overused term, with all the restaurants and the entertainment spots.”

Lancaster says the office was move-in ready. The company added a collector Stowe Davis desk purchased by his father in the ‘50s, and a couple of collector Eames chairs.

“We’re excited to stick our toe in the Grand Rapids market,” Lancaster says. “It’s a very important market to us.”
