G-Sync: Before Plugging Back into the Matrix

It always seems like the week before one leaves town for a little holiday that the workload doubles. For those who own their own businesses, it is often the time unexpected surprises pop up.

I feel you readers on many levels this week while sitting in a plastic chair with an energy drink, listening to the lake's calming waves while writing late into the evening. Sometimes, the best-laid plans may include working on the road during relaxation time. The accommodations are not deluxe, but in the end I am reminded that Michigan in the summer is still wonderful to behold regardless of the location.

From the vantage point of our new space, we wrapped up our second event: the launch of the ArtPrize's 2011 poster by Square One Design's Lindsay Jones. We paused, looked around and realized something: Fall is approaching.

During the first days of August, it became apparent to all of us at Rapid Growth that the waning light of summer is indeed nigh, so we better make haste and put some R&R into our schedules.

From Jeff to Juliet and all around the Rapid Growth table, all of us are applying foot to pedal this week looking for a place to stop, relax and soak up the local culture, even if it is no further than our front door.

So this week, rather than tackling an urban topic when the warm beach sand between my toes has me focusing on more pressing matters like where I'll take that second nap today day, I've decided to take a week off -- sort of.

Realizing that the Pure Michigan campaign has fans and foes (and comic imitators) for a myriad of reasons, I thought it would be nice to share a few personal images of why I love Michigan in the summer.

And while some may know my photo-inspired artwork from the gallery, I have decided to use my smart phone to capture a few of my favorite moments.

I recognize that in a news organization, this act may seem self-indulgent, but let me assure you the representation of the purity of space is truly my goal.

These images only tell the story of right now and yet in this compressed environment, I think one may unlock the poetry in the everyday or mundane with a camera.

I'd like to think of this as My Michigan 6 but instead of words, I will return to images that inspired me. And, as you know, a picture is worth a thousand words…

While rounding out your summer, be sure to visit our RG Facebook page (and Like it)  so you can tag and share your six images that inspired you here in Michigan. (Try to avoid blatant advertising; we are looking for the poetic in the vacuum.)

The Future Needs All of Us (acknowledge the beauty in the now.)
