SiTE:LAB @ Blandford Nature Center: Lines This Time Are For The Birds

June 15 and 16, June 15, 5-11 p.m., June 16, 12-5 p.m.
If the thought of going to another SiTE:LAB event after the long lines and head-scratching theatrics from Art.Downtown seem to put you off, please consider the Blandford Nature Center’s olive ...er, well, this branch among the many present as a way back in to experience the excitement of nature at the intersection of art, music, dance and performance.

When SiTE:LAB returns for their second outing in partnership with Kendall College of Art & Design at this popular northwest nature center in the city of Grand Rapids, you can expect to see a plethora of site specific temporary art exhibitions created on their spacious 143 acres of forest, meadows and wetlands. And please leave the art gallery black dress and high heels at home and instead don comfortable shoes created for foraging to see more than 30 artists and exhibiting collectives’ work.

The list of artists and groups can be secured on their site and includes names from the known to the emerging like Darlene Kaczmarczyk, Sally England, Nathan Mabie, Yolanda Gonzalez, Katherine Marty, Billy Mayer and many more.

Just as with last year, Friday night’s event is more of a party atmosphere with beer available for purchase from Brewery Vivant and live performances by musicians and performance artists Seth Galligan, The Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company, Atomic Hoop Troupe, Dance In The Annex, Laura Armenta, Ubuntu Drum Circles and Karisa Wilson.

Saturday is geared more towards families and those looking for hands-on instruction with a Photo Walk with Terry Johnston, a foraging walk with Urban Ranch’s Lisa Rose Starner, Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides and the very popular Grand Rapids Children's Museum’s Kids Crafts in the Learning Lab. Look for live performances Seth Galligan, The Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company, Laura Armenta and the Ubuntu Drum Circles.

Both days, patrons of this very unique arts event will be able to take in all the exhibits. Just be sure to pack your bug spray.
