Alexis: Picking Up Where They Left Off

Saturday, Jan. 26, 9:30 p.m.
In the grand tradition of the cliffhanger, when we last left Alexis' Matt Forbush and Dan Hurst -- our dynamic duo of electronic synth music -- they had disrobed to their grape leafs at the 2011 Halloween concert at Founders, vowing when they returned, they'd do so with a new set of surprises.

After many months of beta testing new tracks with eye raising stage antics and a dark arts-inspired music video for the forthcoming “Fantastic Magic,” the band Alexis is returning to Founders' vast beer hall with a group of acts guaranteed to deliver the sweetest hangover. Alexis, in producing the entire lineup of acts, is bringing to the heart of Saturday night what can only be described as an extravaganza of electronic dance music.

Upon closer inspection, the night’s entertainment is more of a survey of Michigan’s dance music spectrum from the state’s epicenters of creative cool as Tunde Olaniran (Flint), Phantasmagoria (Detroit), and AB! (GR) all join Alexis on stage for one night.

This concert is a chance not only for West Michigan to hear some of the bands that are burning up the East side stages, but also an opportunity for us to show our visitors how we turn up the heat when Alexis is on stage.

As an added bonus, the boys have added a new light show, a kaleidoscope video projection program by Ryan Lieske, a video mash-up performance of “Fantastic Magic,” and brand new songs from their forthcoming summer 2013 release, which will include the nearly impossible to forget Prince/Journey-inspired disco tune, "Feel 4 U."

“Founders has such a great built in audience that whenever we play there, we always feel the room is ready to dance,” says Forbush. “As we surveyed the landscape in preparing this show, I can say this is the ticket this weekend if you are looking for pure dance and unabashed fun.”

Before Alexis takes the stage, Phantasmagoria will present an ethereal and trippy hour-long set before Tunde Olaniran and his dancers release a series of beats and raps to a stunning choreographed (and polished) show that is sure to get the audience to stop talking.

Even AB! will have a few surprises he will spin between the acts. He is also rumored to be performing a short unscheduled set, so don’t be late. At press time, AB! is still taking requests on the Facebook page for tracks to spin on Saturday.
