Alexis Live @Pub 43: The Intimate Show and Tell Show

Saturday, August 4, 9 PM
Electro--pop band Alexis continues to heat up the landscape in a run of record-breaking temps as they pack venues with their on-stage antics and desire to create pop music with soul.

Unlike other venues the band has been performing in over the past two years, the choice of the Avenue for the Arts' Pub 43 is a fitting one for the two-person band as they are often found at this watering hole after any one of the many concerts they have performed in our city.

And this year has been a great one for the band as they have not only once again been deemed as a Festival for the Arts favorite (and don’t-miss act) for the second year in a row by the Grand Rapids Press, but also invited to open for the ultimate house party band, The B-52’s, at the Frederik Meijer Gardens’ summer concert series kickoff event this past June.

The choice of this smaller venue will come with a few setbacks, but also a few bonuses as well.

The first setback is that space will be limited so to gain access, you will need to arrive early.

But for those do who achieve entry, the payoff will be huge. This show will be scaled down, meaning that frontman Matthew Forbush may be sizably conservative in his stage movements, forgoing his racing from side to side performance style for a more controlled one, ala’ Michelle Pfeiffer.Like Fabulous Baker Boys meets Bob Fosse, Forbush may employ small gyrations sure to bring the vaulted ceilings to the ground as the fans scream, hoot and holler for more.

“This will be the last low-key, lounge show we'll be doing in Grand Rapids this year,” says Forbush. “Come down and see us in a friendly, intimate setting where the music is front and center.”

And if they supply this very athletic singer with a microphone, I can see Forbush very easily walking the bar like it is his own personal runway.

DJ Dan will get the crowd pumped up with a collection of his favorite tracks before opening act Millie and Jam of Ann Arbor hit the stage.
