Bottom40: Let’s Play Dress Up, Together

Friday, Sept. 27, 9 p.m. doors
What’s not to love about Bottom40 – a pop-up dance party event that was born out of a basement in a Eastown house in 2006 and has been booty poppin’ the nightclub scene with some of the best smiles a venue could hope for ever since. If you need proof, then just Google them and look at the fun photos from over the years.

“Basically, ArtPrize dominates our city and it’s everything people talk about for a few weeks in the fall,” says Bottom40 co-creator Jonathan Bell. “We felt like it was only appropriate to keep the theme going for everyone, so this event is a bit of an experiment because the theme is so wid- open to topic and interpretation that it should be fun to see what people come up with.”

What Bell and party-partner Christian Verwys do at Bottom40 is create a festive opportunity to dress up in creatively inspired costumes taking their lead from the theme of the event. In the past they have even hosted parties that do more than just get you sweaty, as they have been generous in supporting causes like The Grand Rapids Red Project and 20Litres.

For this event (and in keeping with the art theme) they are asking folks to dress up as their favorite work of art and will be inviting DJ ZRocha (Zach Rickel) to take over the 1s and 2s as a way to showcase what many have enjoyed only via his eclectic mixtapes.

In addition, The Ladies of BOTTOM40, who have always been advocating with Bell and Verwys to add some Top 40 tunes and not make it such a SausageFest on stage, will rush the stage to close out the night. Keep a twenty in your front jeans pocket for cab fare. You might need it!
