Benefit for Crash's Landing Kitties: Reverend of Compassion is a Cat’s Saint

Saturday, Feb. 16, 8 p.m.
An event that began with just one band (The PotatoeBabies) has quickly become the go-to event for indie music fans and cat lovers alike.

Migrating from a tiny hall on Division Ave. nine years ago, the Benefit for Crash's Landing Kitties has finally has landed across the river becoming affectionately (though unofficially) known as the Westside Anti-Valentine Five-Band Bowling Cathouse of Fun.

Crash's Landing is a nonprofit devoted to removing at-risk strays from the streets, providing them with veterinary care, and housing them until a permanent home can be found.

This year's guest bands include Deborah Kay & the Bluebloods, The JetBeats, Persistent Flashback Disorder, and Old Man Jenkins. Each has a very distinct musical style that runs the gamut from '60s garage surf, to Cajun R&B, to psychedelic, to classic covers. And of course, crowd favorite, The PotatoeBabies.

The event always serves up more than just music, according to PotatoeBabies frontman Rev. Charles Preston Smith. "This year, we have more donations from area businesses than ever before, so one's chances to win something at the raffle held throughout the night are going to be epic," Smith says.

The raffle takes place between every band (starting at 9 p.m.), and once during each band's set for a total of eight chances to win!

And if you think the best prizes can be had as easily as buying a ticket, then you have never attended a Rev. Charles event. For this event, he will have two litter boxes (with gold-handled scoops) onstage where those brave enough to risk being potentially Instagramed or YouTubed will have a chance to Scoop n Win!

Your admission is also a generous upgrade over other benefits as it includes free bowling, cat stickers, and love beads (probably left over from Mardi Gras aisle at The Dollar Store).

And of course, the original PotatoeBabies Anti-Valentine Cards that are wicked funny and worth collecting will be freely given away to guests.

Sure, there are a lot of things to consider doing on a very full Saturday night. But if down, dirty, and unpretentious is your thing, then the smart money's on this feline loving party.

Admission: $8
