Death: On The Screen, In Person, and On Stage

Monday, August 5 (film), Tuesday, August 6 (concert)
Hailed as more than just a documentary, A Band Called Death will open at UICA with a special two-day package offer that will not only include a chance to see the film at the art center, but immediately after the Monday screening, attendees will also be treated to a panel discussion from Death.

Ticket holders of Monday's special screening (it is playing all week at UICA at regular prices) will also be invited to see the band perform at The Pyramid Scheme on Tuesday night.

In the early days of the 1970s, a group of guys formed a band called Death and would practice in a spare room in one of the member's homes. And while they would go on to cut a single, Death would soon discover the world was not ready for their brand new style of music to emerge in an era of Motown glory and disco dancing.

The demo tape of this now iconic music was set aside, only to be discovered in 2008 when member Bobby Hackney Sr.'s sons found it in a box in the attic while looking for music from Death to perform in their own band.

Death is now being hailed by music critics and historians as not only the first black punk band, but possibly the very first punk band!

It is a rare treat and often the stuff of film festivals to see a documentary on the big screen, attend a panel discussion with the subjects of the film, and then see them perform live. And it will only cost you $20.

Admission: $20.
