It seems I could throw a rock and hit a run or walk these days in Grand Rapids. And while some are legacy events with great causes that attract people from all over, there are others are distinctly novel like last summer’s Color Run and August's Mud Run.
But the new homegrown run, Glow Your Love, is debuting this weekend with the assistance of one of our local sports advocates for our community’s health and well-being, Bradley Wills of Gazelle Sports of Grand Rapids.
Earlier this summer, Wills worked with the West Michigan Pride to create the Run As One event and had so much fun that he is partnering again with West Michigan Pride to debut the Glow Your Love 5k, where runners and walkers of all ages and sizes are invited to be a part of this run that is illuminated by you, as participants affix and wear glowing items as they raise funds for the 25th Anniversary of the West Michigan Pride annual celebration that will return to downtown Grand Rapids after years of touring other venues in our city.
Glow Your Love’s race takes place along the Grand River at the city’s Riverside Park and will be hosted by the always fabulous and funny comic Sarah Jean Anderson. Race organizers will have 3,000 glowing “things” to choose from, but if you want to really light up the night, be sure to adorn yourself creatively and you might just win a great prize.
Immediately after the race, take your hot bod to downtown Grand Rapids’ Stella’s Lounge at their new dance bar to the music provided by Max Lubbers of Syncedelic who will spin more love at the post-Glow Your Love party.
Pre-registration ends soon, but you can still register on October 5 at Gazelle Sports Grand Rapids from 4-7 p.m. If you miss that window, you can just show up at Riverside Park between 5:30 p.m.-7:15 p.m. and pay $25. (Please note: shirt quantities and size availability are not guaranteed for late registrants.)
