Implications of the Emergency Manager Law: Insights on Flint

Monday, Mar. 21, 5:30 p.m. (social hour), 6 p.m. (program)
There are no shortages of events happening around the state seeking to address or help solve the Flint water crisis. These events range from donations of bottled water, “fish-slaps” at The B.O.B. (DATE) to even LaughFest, where Kathy Griffin called for the governor to be recalled. It is a diverse and hot topic in our state.

But Michigan's American Civil Liberties Union is the one organization that has earned the right to be at the top of your list of groups that we should be listening to on this tragic series of events that lead to the massive poisoning of an entire city.

Kary Moss, Executive Director of the ACLU Michigan, will be here in Grand Rapids to address the “Implications of the Emergency Manager Law” and why it is a threat to our democracy.

Moss, along with her staff, were the first ones on the ground working with an embedded journalists model based on listening to, and then lifting up, the voices of the Flint residents, who were being told to drink the lead-contaminated water by our state’s leaders and agencies charged to protect the public from harm.

It is sure to be an informative, first-person perspective on a topic that shows no sign of slowing down.

Admission: $20. (includes lecture and light appetizers)
