Live Coverage: (Artists) All Together Now

The creative process is often a lonely space as most artists work in the solitude of their studios. Yet once in a while, we get a chance to watch the process unfold. The biggest event in Grand Rapids that allows this window to appear is UICA's annual fundraiser, Live Coverage.

Inspired by the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's BareWalls fundraiser, UICA gained permission to create their own version 12 years ago, now one of the hottest tickets on the fundraising circuit of Grand Rapids.

Guests will be able to view more than 50 artists up close as they create works in pop-up studio spaces on multiple floors of UICA. Guests will also enjoy strolling appetizers and a cash bar.

Although the event will be held for the first time at their new facility, the format will be very similar to past years with multiple floors acting as sections for the silent auction portion with a closing every half hour.

The Live Auction for 2013 will occur on Level 4 this year in the hopes of making their $75,000 goal.

The featured artist for the 2013 event will be Stephen Duren, a semiabstract painter whose work can be found in collections all over the country. Duren has volunteered generously every year to participate in Live Coverage since the beginning. He is truly exciting to watch as he attacks the canvas with oil bar and other techniques. It is like visual poetry with paint.
