Music and Microbrews: A Series of Firsts

Say goodbye to cheap beer and God-awful, boring burgundy as the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra’s Picnic Pops rolls out the green grass carpet for violist Ade Williams, the Junior Division First Place Laureate of the 2012 Annual Sphinx Competition. They're also putting out the welcome sign for the debut of another first: the Music and Microbrews event at Cannonsburg Ski Area in Belmont.

For a low cost of $35 per person, you can enjoy a pre-concert musical program alongside the featured GRSO/Williams performance, but do so from your reserved seat where you can enjoy a picnic dinner and two complimentary beer beverages under a sky that once it is all over will be lit with fireworks.

The microbrew local stars joining you on this launch will include these award winners: Bell’s Oberon, Founder’s Pale Ale, Dark Horse IPA, New Holland Amber, Brewery Vivant Farm Hand. And if beer is not your bag, they will have a nice selection of wines (Pinot Noir and Moscato) as well as specialty Jones Sodas.

The concert this night will be packed full of GRSO’s classical favorites from Rossini’s "Overture to William Tell," Vivaldi’s "Summer" from the "Four Seasons," selections from John Williams' beloved Star Wars score, Dvorak’s "Finale from Symphony No. 9 from The New World," Tchaikovsky’s "1812 Overture," Mozart’s "Overture to the Marriage of Figaro" and one of my absolute favorite works by an American composer, the "Fanfare for the Common Man" by Copland will open the night.

As you can see, this is a solid ticket and one that is sure to be snatched up quickly, so buy your tickets in advance to guarantee entry. There are non-reserved general admission tickets starting at $12 for students, $14 for adults and $5 for children.

Admission: $35.
