Spring Break for Kids: A Moving Staycation

Tuesday - Thursday, April 2 - 4, 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
While some families will escape the cold of winter over Spring Break, others escape from their social migrations with other adults in the search of something to do with their kids.

And while our region is offering more and more options for families, I really think the Grand Rapids Ballet (GRB) is offering something truly remarkable at the equally remarkably price of $5.

Building off a long history of engaging children's minds and bodies through dance, the GRB is bringing back their wildly popular Spring Break program with a spirited performance to the Saint-Saens' "Carnival of the Animals."

In addition to this lively and imaginative 30-minute presentation, kids will be invited to engage in pre-show activities like trying on theatrical costumes, partaking in an introduction to dance class, creating an artful object, and entering to win a door prize.

"Our goal is to utilize an extremely engaging and easy to follow 'kid friendly' ballet to expose children to dance and the arts," says Executive Director Glenn Del Vecchio. "As school budgets are being cut, it is important for the cultural and artistic communities to step up and create programming that keeps the arts alive in our children's education."

Del Vecchio believes that seeing, touching, and feeling art through programming like GRB's Spring Break for Kids can usher in greater appreciation of the art of dance to children.

The elimination of barriers has been provided by PNC Bank, whose generous investment has ensured that the cost stay a low $5 per person.
