14th Annual Taste of Grand Rapids: Local Flavor Explosion

Friday, July 27, 3 PM – 10 PM and Saturday, July 28, 11 AM – 10 PM
It is easy these days to attend any one of the many food events in West Michigan and begin to see an all-too-familiar roster of vendors. But for the annual Taste of Grand Rapids and the state-sanctioned barbecue competition, variety is the spice.

In addition to the food served, local Clear Channel station 101.3 FM The Fox has produced a rock and blues lineup on Friday and on Saturday, sister stations Star 105.7 FM and 93.7 FM B-93 invite you to get your country kicking with special guest and emerging star, Kristen Kelly. Kelly has been opening for Brad Paisley on his Virtual Reality World Tour, but will be taking a break this weekend to entertain the foodies and fans of West Michigan.

It is two great days of local and national acts sharing the stage including Karisa Wilson, Daredevil Circus, Tyler Farr, the Thirsty Perch Blues Band and a special jam session with The Old Timers and the Stan Mroz & Band.

“There are many reasons to come to the Taste of Grand Rapids,” says Event Director Tim Faegan. “From the children’s area, to the live entertainment, to the food and wine pairing and the beer, there truly is something for everyone. Not to mention it’s free to attend. Above all, the food is the real star of the show and the main attraction.”

One other star attraction is the annual State of Michigan Barbecue competition where the winner will be sent to the Kansas to compete in the National Barbecue Championship. The categories include best barbecue ribs, chicken, pork, side dishes and many more entries up for tasting throughout the festival.

The food list ranges from "Mom & Pop" shops, to Michigan-made offerings to corporate change. The list is always changing, but this year, look for an opportunity to sample from Chez Olga, Florentine's Pizzeria Ristorante & Sports Bar, Fred's Italian Restaurant, Grand Traverse Pie Co., Grillmaster's BBQ, Happy's Pizza, Moo-ville, RedRobin, Schondelmayer Bar-B-Q, The Venue, XO Asian Cuisine, Jamaican Daves, Koeze Company, Chinatown, Mad Dogz, Melting Pot, Culvers, Mad Dogz, Kilwin's, Twisted Rooster, River City Smoker and more. A total of 26 restaurants will be on hand.

The entertainment, as well as the parking, is free. To sample the beverages and cuisine, food tickets will need to be purchased.
