Walk, bike, bus--Latino students find easy access to new Holland GRCC campus appealing

Proximity to downtown and bilingual staff fill a need for Holland’s Latino students who want a college education. Municipalities count on the best and brightest of these students to drive higher wage jobs in the knowledge economy.

Holland, MI — Area Latinos wanting to pursue higher education don’t have far to drive these days.

With the Grand Rapids Community College Lakeshore Campus opening in January at the Midtown Center, many Latinos can walk, ride a bike or take a bus to get to classes. It was a focus of the college and lakeshore campus dean Dan Clark.

“We wanted to do things to continue to bring Latinos to college,” Clark said.

The idea appealed to Laura Jimenez, who came to the lakeshore campus Thursday with her husband Mario, to fill out an admissions application.
