Wastewater plant in Saugatuck Township to run some of its equipment with solar panels

According to the Holland Sentinel, the wastewater lagoons at Saugatuck Township have been relying on 20 aerators to add oxygen to the ponds for its treatment of water. The aerators will soon be replaced with solar-powered ones, bringing a savings to the township and creating a greener process at the same time.

According to excerpts from the story:

The authority now has 20 aerators — 16 in one lagoon and four in the other. Not all run at the same time. Usually, five run in the larger pond and two in the other to handle the million gallon wastewater capacity. Their power comes from the grid, just like other businesses and homes.

The authority will only need two SolarBee solar-powered aerators to do the work of the current 20. And these will be powered by the sun, meaning electrical use — and bills — will be cut.
