Grand Rapids firm launches virtual do-it-yourself T-shirt design business

John Churchill has two visions for his new business MYEZTEE.com — to give the average person the tools to design cool contemporary wearable art, and to create jobs.

The web site, which launched in September, is a do-it-yourself T-shirt design studio where, in just a few clicks, users can upload their own designs or logos, use the designs on the site, or manipulate them to create new designs. The cost is competitive, there is no artwork set-up fee, the shipping is free, and the shirts arrive at the customer’s door within 10 days.

“We’re making very, very up-to-date designs,” says owner John Churchill, who also owns Comstock Park-based Jonny Logo, MYEZTEE’s parent company.

“The designs can go on the shirt front or back, down the sleeve, down the side; you can even put a photo of a sports team in a pyramid or whatever shape you want. You just click on a design and add fonts. You can do a shirt in 10 minutes or less.”

Churchill had the idea for the site and then met Amir Babic. Babic had the programming skills and the materials for a similar site he wanted to create, and Churchill hired him to create MYEZTEE.com. To-date the majority of customers are schools, churches and athletic teams.

“Right now we’re operating out of our plant on Six Mile Court,” Churchill notes. “As we grow we’ll have regional managers and will provide art and materials to regional printers across the country. The orders will go to them for printing and shipping within their region. As the business develops, we’ll make the site easier and easier for people to use, and we’ll have a whole crew of people here working.”
