Thinking Local: A time to celebrate

Slowly, entrepreneurs are bringing back the economy both nationally and locally. Here in Grand Rapids, small business is blossoming in many sectors -- hiring, expanding products or services, and purchasing from other local organizations.

It’s a collaboration to revive the economy and strengthen our community, and that’s what nonprofit organization Local First of West Michigan believes too.  According to the agency, significantly more money re-circulates in West Michigan when consumers choose to support our locally owned businesses.

To celebrate this working concept, Local First of West Michigan is awarding a few local businesses with an honor for the progress and example they set in our city. The 2012 Annual Meeting and LocalMotion Awards event is being held on Jan. 31 at The Goei Center.

The nominees include EPS Security, The Rapid, The Image Shoppe, Mill Steel Company, Comprehensive Therapy Center, Metro Health Hospital, Clothing Matters, WMEAC, Padnos, Gazelle Sports, Pilgrim Manor, Founders Bank & Trust, Frames Unlimited, Grand Rapids Art Museum, Stenson Builders LLC, CompuCraft, dmStrategists, DwellTech Solutions, Ninth Bridge Market, Tree Hugger’s, Essence Restaurant Group, Stellafly Social Media, Amore Trattoria Italiana and WelcomeWest.

Quite an impeccable group of organizations, but only a couple will take home the award. Find out who the winners are and support Local First of West Michigan by attending the event.
