Thin Mints, Shortbreads and Tagalongs: Helping the Girl Scouts and Michigan Blood

Watching your waistline? Or do you want to double your impact? Purchase a box of cookies from your local neighborhood Brownie or Girl Scout and donate the cookies to the Gift of Caring program.

“Last year was the first Council sponsored partner for the Gift of Caring program,” explains Girl Scouts Shore to Shore Director of Marketing and Communications Meaghan Pear. “We were hoping to have a couple hundred boxes of cookies to deliver to our nonprofit collaborator, Michigan Blood.”

They didn't receive a couple hundred of boxes. They got a couple thousand.

“We were blown away when we delivered 3,000 boxes to Michigan Blood the very first year we partnered with them,” says Pear.

The Gift of Caring program collects all of the cookies people purchase, but donate back to the organization. You can, in fact, double your impact by doing so. You promote a Girl Scout’s entrepreneurship and provide cookies to those who donate blood at centers all across the state. This is the second year the Girls Scouts will be partnering with Michigan Blood.

“We will have no problem surpassing 3,000 boxes this year,” boasts Pear.

Although pre-orders for cookies has concluded, Girl Scouts will soon be launching the next phase of sales with their cookie booths on March 17 and 18, and then again March 23 – April 16.  So don’t miss your opportunity to make a difference in two nonprofit organizations at one time. Once April 16 passes, so does this wonderful gift.
