With the hope of securing Brownfield redevelopment tax credits, the developers of Midtowne Village have plans to demolish a vacant furniture store on the east end of Michigan Street to create a consolidated childcare facility for Spectrum Health employees.

Spectrum Health plans to consolidate its two employee child-care centers at a new $3.4 million Michigan Street building by next fall.
The new center on the site of the former Bishop's furniture store would combine child-care centers Spectrum now operates at 930 Lake Drive SE and at its Blodgett campus in East Grand Rapids.
The Withey building, where the child-care center at the Blodgett campus is located, is slated to be demolished as part of a major overhaul of the hospital grounds.
